Five reasons why orchids are not fragrant

Orchids are fragrant, but some flower lovers find that the orchids they plant have less and less fragrance, so why do orchids lose their fragrance? Here are five reasons why orchids don't have a scent.

1. The influence of varieties

If orchid genes are influenced in some way, such as when orchids bloom, some varieties are naturally odorless, orchids may not be able to smell. In order to avoid the degeneration of orchid varieties, it is recommended to avoid mixing orchids with other odorless flower varieties to prevent the aroma of orchid offspring from mixing and deteriorating.

2. Insufficient light

Orchids prefer a semi-shady environment. If the orchid's growth environment is not well lit, the orchid will not get enough sunlight for photosynthesis. From time to time there will be scattered light, and the amount of nutrients produced will be small. And there is no smell at all. It is recommended that flower lovers often adjust the light, place it in bright sunlight in winter and spring, and place it in a partial shade in summer and autumn. Try not to move it outside for maintenance, but to move it regularly. It's on the ledge, with the tides and sunsets.

3. Insufficient vernalization.

I believe anyone who has raised orchids knows that many varieties of orchids require low temperature vernalization in order to bloom. If it has not been vernalized at low temperature, it will have less flowering or less fragrant flowers. After experiencing the low temperature during vernalization, the temperature difference between day and night should be about 10 degrees.

4. Lack of nutrition

Although orchids do not need a lot of fertilizer, if neglected, orchids lack nutrients, it is easy to cause the leaves to turn yellow and even the flower buds to fall off, which affects the growth and development of orchids, so their nectaries are naturally short of water. Unable to produce strong honeydew aroma. Apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. During the flower bud growth and differentiation period, topdress regularly before and after the autumnal equinox.

5. The ambient temperature is uncomfortable.

For orchids that bloom in winter and spring, such as Hanlan, Molan, Chunlan, Sijilan, etc., low temperature will affect the honeydew in the orchid. When the temperature is below 0°C, the honeydew will freeze and the fragrance will not come out. When the temperature is raised or adjusted, the aroma is released. Flower lovers need to adjust the room temperature in time. Generally, when orchids bloom in winter, the ambient temperature should be kept above 5°C.
